Morgan Ceramics Highlights AES Insulation Breakthrough and Injection Moulded Ceramics at ICI Conference

5 Oct 2011

Morgan Ceramics will be highlighting its recent breakthrough in developing alkaline earth silicate fiber (AES) alternatives at the Investment Casting Institute (ICI)’s 58th Annual Technical Conference and Equipment Expo. These alternatives to refractory ceramic fiber (RCF) are used for high temperature insulation mold wraps. Also on display at the booth will be injection molded ceramics, ideal for investment casting in aerospace, industrial turbine, high volume automotive, medical and hardware applications.

The conference will be held Oct 9-12, 2011 at the Marriott Cincinnati at RiverCenter, Covington, KY, and Morgan Ceramics will be at booth #108/110. Morgan Thermal Ceramics and Morgan Technical Ceramics Certech (MTC Certech), both businesses within the Morgan Ceramics Division of the Morgan Crucible Company Plc., will join forces at the conference to showcase their combined offerings.

Chris Johnson, Morgan Thermal Ceramics Applications Engineer, will be presenting “Efficiencies and Workplace Environmental Impact Improvements in Mold Wrap Applications,” on Monday, October 10, 2011, from 10:50-11:25. Mr. Johnson will focus on the successful development of an AES mold wrap product as an alternative to high temperature insulation composed of RCF, which has recently come under increasingly stringent regulations. The AES product, Superwool® 607® HT, is thermally superior or equivalent to RCF, but does not require special handling, packaging or personal protective equipment. Its use in the investment casting industry is resulting in significant environmental, health and safety benefits.

MTC Certech will be showcasing its full line of injection molded ceramics engineered for investment casting, including equiax, DS and single crystal, airfoil and IGT cores, and aircraft and general hardware cores. MTC Certech cores allow the creation of internal cavities during the investment casting process that are too complex or too small to be shelled. With four manufacturing facilities across the US, two in the UK and one in Mexico, MTC Certech routinely produces production runs into the millions of pieces.
