The Thermal Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials manufactures and supplies high temperature fibre, refractory and microporous insulation products and systems; for thermal management in critical high temperature environments including iron foundries and steel mills. Our unique offering of fibre, dense fired refractories and microporous provides Thermal Ceramics the ability to work with the entire heat-treating cycle from transporting the melt stream to casting the molten alloy to reheating the solid alloy shapes. Superwool® fibres, low biopersistence insulating ceramic fibre is favoured by the metalworking industry because of its excellent thermal performance, lightweight and resistance to wetting. Our insulating refractory materials, monolithics, are available in a wide range of formulations for unique back-up and hot face lining applications in continuous casting, forging and reheaters across the Iron and Steel industry. Pyro-Bloc® modules provide the furnace design a superior lining solution on the hot face in blast furnaces, hearth furnaces, and heat treatment furnaces. Our K®, JM™, TJM™ ranges of insulating fire bricks offer superior performance solutions to lining designs.
For sever atmosphere conditions we offer engineered solutions with our Superwool® XTRA™ module lining solution our Denka Polycrystalline blankets. These product solutions feature excellent resistance to high temperatures, mechanical stresses and chemical attack for reliable operation and extended service life. Like all Thermal Ceramics products, they provide effective and reliable insulation, reliability and reduce energy costs at key stages in iron and steel processes including steel ladles, tun dishes and vacuum ladles.
WDS® LambdaFlex® and WDS® Flexipor® flexible microporous insulation systems make them an ideal solution for use as steel ladle insulation design where they have been shown to improve energy balance by as much as 50% and provide the capability for increased volume capacity.
Our newest technology, WDS® Microporous solutions, such as WDS® Flexipor® and WDS® Ultra, have proven successful in improving ladle lining applications. The flexibility, lightweight and thermal efficiency of these materials allows us to engineer effective and reliable thermal systems that maintain optimal temperature distribution inside the furnace for a more homogeneous, better quality product, more efficient use of energy, and longer furnace life.
