The Role of DuctWrap in Commercial Kitchens

Did you know our FireMaster® FastWrap XL duct wrap protects the world’s largest casinos?

In all commercial buildings, not just casinos it is vital that passive fire protection is installed to prevent the spread of fire and compartmentalize the potential damage and risk. In restaurants, hotels, universities, hospitals and schools, commercial cooking equipment frequently have grease ducts.

This is a metal duct that is specifically designed to vent grease vapour to the exterior of the building, which can become a severe fire risk due to the possibility of the accumulated grease catching fire and spreading the hazard throughout the building. Legislative and regulatory building codes require passive fire protection systems in commercial kitchens. Grease ducts which use FireMaster FastWrap XL to exhaust effluent from equipment such as fryers, pizza ovens and stoves Is just one example of how our products help companies to meet their legislative requirements and mitigate a very real fire hazard.

FireMaster is the original grease duct wrap and market leading solution for duct wrap applications is manufactured in the US, Europe, and Mexico. FireMaster was first developed in the 1970s and was the first product on the market. FastWrap XL is our latest innovation in this line and has been designed specifically for duct applications ensuring it performs effectively and offers key characteristics such as:

  • Completely inorganic
  • Non-combustible
  • Thinness
  • Lightweight
  • Flexible

The FireMaster FastWrap XL system’s tight butt seam joint approved for grease duct applications saves on material use, because there is no need for the double material thickness for the overlap. By using compression joints rather than overlap joints, the UL-listed installation method results in space, labor, and material savings. The space savings are estimated at 33 percent over the existing method, which is a real benefit in commercial construction projects.

Other advantageous features include the UL Environmental Claims Validation with resistance to microbial growth per ASTM C1338-08 and low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) per CA Section 01350. As with our entire range of FireMaster products, FastWrap XL provides effective fire protection in extreme temperatures and is rated to 2192⁰F (1200⁰C). FastWrap XL is also flexible and fully encapsulated meaning that it is easy to install, making it highly cost effective for installation companies.
