Our History
Up until the early 70’s Morgan, was mainly active in dense refractories, crucibles, furnaces and industrial ceramics, However after entering into a joint venture agreement with Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) of the USA, we established operations for manufacturing ceramic fibre in the UK and Liege, Belgium. B&W.
Throughout the 70’s further plants were established in Sydney, Australia & Bromborough, UK. During the 80’s, the business expanded via joint ventures and acquisitions in Australia, India and Mexico. In 1986, the “Thermal Ceramics Division” was formed.
Key expansion
Key expansion took place in 1988 and 1990; Morgan acquired certain assets of McDermott’s insulating Products Division and Manville’s Insulating Products Group, which included operations in the US (now known as Thermal Ceramic Inc), Brazil, Venezuela, Canada and Puerto Rico. Their European operations became Thermal Ceramics de France, Thermal Ceramics Italiana, and Thermal Ceramics Netherlands. During the same period an important milestone was reached when Thermal Ceramics, reached an agreement with the Chinese authorities to establish Dalian Morgan Refractories. A business that would one day spearhead our drive into China
Further acquisitions
Throughout the 90’s other acquisitions strengthened the manufacturing base in Italy, Guatemala, Korea, South Africa and Colombia. Thermal Ceramics Shanghai was established in Pudong, Shanghai, the forming of a joint venture between Nippon Steel Chemical Corporation and Thermal Ceramics established Shinnikka Thermal Ceramics Corporation in Osaka Japan. In addition trading companies were formed via Thermal Ceramics Espana, Thermal Ceramics Benelux in the Netherlands, and finally Engineering companies Gossler, Germany and CIRIA, Italy were acquired to assist in the development of our full engineering service to the end user.
Expanding our horizons
Since the start of the new millennium we have continued to expand our horizons as we look for increased opportunities around the world. Three new facilities in China with Morgan Kailong in Jingmen, Yixing Morgan Thermal Ceramics and Beijing Yingtel Morgan have been formed or expanded. In India we have strengthened our position by building a new green field plant in Moti Bhoyan Gujurat and increasing our engineering resource in Noida New Delhi. The acquisition of the Vesuvius fibre businesses provided two new plants in Poland and Erwin, Tennessee and finally the founding of a new joint venture in Russia Morgan Thermal Ceramics Sukhoy Log LLC
